Online Videoconference brings together close to 80 schools across 15 countries
Chandigarh, 13 th June 2020: The 11 th edition of the BVCMUN, organized by Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh was inaugurated by Shri Suresh Kumar IAS, Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Punjab via videoconference today.
Speaking at the opening ceremony to over 300 student delegates from close to 80 schools from countries around the world, Shri Suresh Kumar advised students to uphold expression against any repression.
Referring to the UN Charter on Human Rights he said that everyone had a right to speech and expression, but in no way was one to repress another human being.
Reminding young delegates to bring about transparency to bring about systemic changes in the world, he asked them to find innovative solutions to problems through negotiation and careful reflection. 'The world is looking for solutions today and solutions will emerge' he said.
Complementing the Bhavan management for providing value education and imbibing in children the ethical principles of life, he promised to stand by the school in good stead in the future.
Chairman of Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh Shri Rajendra K Saboo, commended the team of young organizers for bringing together young participants from different countries on the virtual platform where serious issues of conflict between nations would be debated and discussed, on the theme of 'Regression to Expression'.
Though our world is one but we are fragmented on the basis of race, color, religion, caste, politics and intolerance, and these regressive circumstances need to be tackled by the young generation to address through positive expression of ideas that can unite us and bring about the change we desire, Shri Saboo said.
Senior Principal Mrs. Vineeta Arora, greeting the young delegates in her opening remarks, spoke with pride of how the BVCMUN had grown in all ways over the last decade. She acknowledged the visionary leadership of Chairman Shri Saboo, who sparked the idea of an online conference; further, she lauded the efforts of the student body in putting together the online version of the event, despite the odds due to the ongoing pandemic.
Those present in the opening ceremony also included Secretary, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Shri Madhukar Malhotra, members of the Kendra Committee and other dignitaries. Senior Principal Mrs. Vineeta Arora, Vice Principal Ms. Suparna Bansal, Principal, Junior School Mrs. Soma Mukhopadhay, and teachers of both the Senior and Junior Wing were also present.
BVCMUN2020 is themed 'From Repression to Expression' and student delegates,over the next two days, are set to engage in debates and deliberations over someof the most pressing issues that plague our world today through an array of compelling committees and agendas.
This year's BVCMUN has witnessed unprecedented participation of students from schools in the USA, United Kingdom, UAE, Lebanon, Pakistan, Australia, Sri Lanka, Bosnia, and India.
The opening ceremony culminated with BVCMUN20's Secretary-General Prabhav Sharma declaring the conference open by sounding the gavel.
