Justice Ritu Bahri inaugurates national round of Leiden Sarin aviation law moot court competition
- NLU Delhi and west Bengal National University of Judicial Sciences.
Mohali 7 February 2026: Former Chief Justice of Uttrakhand High Court, Ms. Justice Ritu Bahri inaugurated the 18th edition of the National rounds of the AIL-Sarin National Round of the 17th Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition at the Army Institute of Law here today.
Former chief justice of Allahabad High Court, Justice S.S. Sodhi presided over the function, who is also the President of the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation, which organises the annual international moot court competition on aviation law.
Speaking on the occasion Justice Bahri lauded the efforts of the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation for supporting the young lawyers in getting the requisite experience in aviation law, and said that there is immense scope of working in this stream because of the newer opportunities coming up with imminent growth of the aviation industry.
Recalling her formative days in college, Justice Ritu Bahri said that despite her family's insistence on joining Home Science, she chose to be a lawyer and challenged herself to explore her potential and had she been not a lawyer her second preference was Army.
She reiterated the need for social and legal support for the families of defence personnel after they lose their lives since most families to have put up with immense struggle.
Senior advocate and former advocate general of Punjab, and secretary general of the Foundation, M.L. Sarin, announced that out of twenty participating teams National Law University, New Delhi, and the West Bengal National University of Judicial Sciences, Kolkata, were declared winners of the AIL-Sarin National Round of the 17th Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition 2026 and selected for the finals to be held in Namibia, from 17th to 19th April 2026.
The Sarin Foundation also conferred the annual Best Mooter of the Year Award, comprising Rs.50,000 in prize money and a trophy, which was shared by two students of the Army Institute of Law, Ms Palak Shukla and Ms Poorva Dhanashri Biswal.
Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation was established in memory of late Shri H.L. Sarin, and Late Shri R.L. Sarin, which is managed by young lawyers and law students to spread legal literacy and take up causes of general public importance for legal redressal, besides training young lawyers in air law through international moot court competition, he said.
Dr. Tejinder Kaur, Principal of the Army Institute of Law, commended the Sarin Foundation for giving the students an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of litigation by holding Moot Court competitions year after year.

मोहाली, 7 फरवरी 2026: उत्तराखंड उच्च न्यायालय की पूर्व मुख्य न्यायाधीश, न्यायमूर्ति ऋतु बाहरी ने आज आर्मी इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ लॉ में 17वीं लेडेन-सारिन अंतर्राष्ट्रीय वायु कानून मूट कोर्ट प्रतियोगिता के राष्ट्रीय दौर का उद्घाटन किया।
इस अवसर पर इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय के पूर्व मुख्य न्यायाधीश, न्यायमूर्ति एसएस सोधी ने अध्यक्षता की, जो सारिन मेमोरियल लीगल एड फाउंडेशन के अध्यक्ष भी हैं, जो विमानन कानून पर वार्षिक अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मूट कोर्ट प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन करता है।
इस अवसर पर बोलते हुए, न्यायमूर्ति बाहरी ने सारिन मेमोरियल लीगल एड फाउंडेशन के प्रयासों की सराहना की, जो युवा वकीलों को विमानन कानून में आवश्यक अनुभव प्राप्त करने में समर्थन प्रदान करता है, और कहा कि विमानन उद्योग की वृद्धि के साथ इस क्षेत्र में काम करने के लिए बहुत अवसर हैं।
अपने कॉलेज के दिनों को याद करते हुए, न्यायमूर्ति ऋतु बाहरी ने कहा कि उनके परिवार के आग्रह के बावजूद उन्होंने वकालत को चुना और अपनी क्षमता का पता लगाने के लिए खुद को चुनौती दी। अगर वह वकील नहीं होतीं, तो उनकी दूसरी पसंद सेना में शामिल होना होता।
उन्होंने कहा कि रक्षा कर्मियों के परिवारों को सामाजिक और कानूनी समर्थन की आवश्यकता है, जब वे अपनी जान गंवा देते हैं, क्योंकि अधिकांश परिवारों को अत्यधिक संघर्ष करना पड़ता है।
वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता और पंजाब के पूर्व महाधिवक्ता, और फाउंडेशन के महासचिव, एमएल सारिन ने घोषणा की कि बीस प्रतिभागी टीमों में से राष्ट्रीय विधि विश्वविद्यालय, नई दिल्ली, और पश्चिम बंगाल राष्ट्रीय विधि विश्वविद्यालय, कोलकाता, ने एआईएल-सारिन राष्ट्रीय दौर जीता और 17 से 19 अप्रैल 2026 तक नामीबिया में होने वाले फाइनल के लिए चुने गए।
सारिन फाउंडेशन ने वार्षिक बेस्ट मूटर ऑफ द ईयर अवार्ड भी प्रदान किया, जिसमें 50,000 रुपये का नकद पुरस्कार और एक ट्रॉफी शामिल है, जिसे आर्मी इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ लॉ की दो छात्राओं, पलक शुक्ला और पूर्वा धनश्री बिस्वाल ने साझा किया।
सारिन मेमोरियल लीगल एड फाउंडेशन की स्थापना दिवंगत श्री एचएल सारिन और दिवंगत श्री आरएल सारिन की याद में की गई थी, जो युवा वकीलों और विधि छात्रों द्वारा कानूनी साक्षरता फैलाने और आम जनता के महत्व के कारणों को कानूनी रूप से निपटाने के लिए प्रबंधित किया जाता है, साथ ही साथ अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मूट कोर्ट प्रतियोगिता के माध्यम से युवा वकीलों को वायु कानून में प्रशिक्षित किया जाता है।
आर्मी इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ लॉ की प्रिंसिपल डॉ. तेजिंदर कौर ने सारिन फाउंडेशन की सराहना की, जिन्होंने छात्रों को मूट कोर्ट प्रतियोगिता आयोजित करके वादविवाद के मूलभूत सिद्धांतों को सीखने का अवसर प्रदान किया।

ਮੋਹਾਲੀ, 7 ਫਰਵਰੀ 2026: ਉੱਤਰਾਖੰਡ ਹਾਈ ਕੋਰਟ ਦੀ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਜੱਜ, ਜਸਟਿਸ ਰਿਤੂ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਨੇ ਅੱਜ ਆਰਮੀ ਇੰਸਟੀਚਿਊਟ ਆਫ ਲਾਅ ਵਿਖੇ 17ਵੇਂ ਲੀਡਨ-ਸਾਰਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਏਅਰ ਲਾਅ ਮੂਟ ਕੋਰਟ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਦੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਦੌਰ ਦਾ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਬੋਲਦਿਆਂ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਨੇ ਸਾਰਿਨ ਮੈਮੋਰੀਅਲ ਲੀਗਲ ਏਡ ਫਾਊਂਡੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਯਤਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜੋ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਵਕੀਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਏਵੀਏਸ਼ਨ ਲਾਅ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋੜੀਂਦਾ ਤਜਰਬਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ, ਜਸਟਿਸ ਰਿਤੂ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਸਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਆਗਰਹ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਉਸਨੇ ਵਕਾਲਤ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਚੁਣੌਤੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਨ ਗਵਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।
