Bhavan Vidyala Chandigarh wins Inter-School Debate Competition











The final round of Oratio, the Interschool English Debate Competition conducted by Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh concluded here today. Twelve finalists deliberated on the relevance of Gandhian Principles in contemporary times. 

Anhad Kaur of Class XII, Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh bagged the first prize.  Ahona Mandal of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh stood second and Aekam Mohan SIngh of St. John's School stood third.

Neeral Raina of Saupins School, Chandigarh got the consolation prize while Riti Krishnan and Raunaq Singh Bawa won the award for the Best Interjection.

Chief Guest Mr. Ruberderjit Singh Brar, Director Public Instructions (Schools) and Higher Education, UT Chandigarh complimented the students for the enlightening views and said that Gandhian principles can never be undermined which have continued to guide us for centuries and have motivated many world leaders like Dalai Lama and Barack Obama.

Chandigarh Administration is working out a new education policy which would change the way we look at education, and would also, be participating in PISA 2021 (Programme for International Students Assessment) as per Prime Minister's vision, Mr Brar said.

Mr. RK Saboo, Chairman and patron of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chandigarh complimented the students for their participation and providing a glimpse of Gandhi's thoughts.

Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh has planned a series of year-long activities for the students to delve into the deeper meaning of Gandhian philosophy and its relevance in the modern world.

The Judging panel included a team of erudite individuals, namely, Col (Retd) P.K. Vasudeva, Senior Professor, ICFAI Business School & University Business School, Panjab University:  Mrs. Harjit Vasudev, Director (Retd) Regional Institute of English, Chandigarh and Mrs. Archana Verma Singh, Assistant Professor of English Literature, SD College, Chandigarh.
