The city is getting obese; Doctors express concern
Two days Conference on endocrinology begins today.
Chandigarh, The two-days medical conference named EPIC (Empower Physicians with International Practices in advanced Diabetes Care), opened at Hyatt Regency here today.
Organised by Sweet Diabetes Foundation under the aegis of Punjab Medical Council, with nearly 400 general physicians participating with expert endocrinologists from across the country shared the newer dimensions in diabetes care and management.
The conference began with a colloquium on gynaecology and diabetes issue IN which Dr. Yash Bala President of COGS, Dr Gagan Priya, Dr Emmy Grewal, Dr Sarita Bajaj, Dr. Sameer Aggarwal, Dr. Tejal Lathia, Dr Rama Walia, amongst other shared perspective into puberty, thyroid dysfunction, and pregnancy.
In another session, Dr. Lakshmi Negendra, Dr Meenakshi Verma, Dr. Vipan Talwar, Dr. Rajat Gupta, Dr. Mathur Verma, Dr. Sachin Mittal, Dr. Saptsrishi Bhattacharya, expressed concern over growing obesity amongst all age groups including children, which further complicates the management of diabetes.
EPIC organizing secretary Dr. Sachin Mittal, said that as per the Indian Council of Medical Research, Chandigarh has the highest prevalence of 13.6% compared to rest of the country (11.8%), especially at a time when diabetes has already reached an epidemic proportion with India becoming the Diabetes Capital of the world.
