Law Schools from Bhopal, Raipur, Lucknow and Mohali win Moot Court Competition

Four law school teams enter the international moot court competition
Four law schools qualified in the national round of the 10th Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition held here today. 
National Law Institute University, Bhopal; Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow; Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur; and Army Institute of Law, Mohali, are the four teams that qualified for the international round which will be held in April in Chandigarh. 
Mr Nitin Sarin, the Moot coordinator, informed that this was a tough competition in which 23 teams participated from all over the country. 
Now the international competition to be held for the first time in the city this year in April, shall see teams from 12 countries participating  in this prestigious moot court competition, includingIndia, Singapore, China (Hongkong), China, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, France, Sri Lanka, Russia, Turkey, and Canada. 
Earlier chief justice of Punjab and Haryana High court, Mr Krishna Murari inaugurated the competitioin.

In the wake of growing aviation industry, it is imperative that the study of air laws should be made part of every law school  curricula, said Chief  Justice Krishna Murari of Punjab and Haryana High Court at the inauguration of the 10th Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition at the Army Institute of Law, Mohali, today.

Mr. Justice Krishna Murari commended the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation and Leiden University for preparing the Indian youth in this most vital area of international aviation laws when India has become the third largest aviation market in the world.
Moot courts are a great play field for the budding lawyers, who learn the nuances of the real court experience, he said.
Justice (retd) S.S.Sodhi, President of the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation, said that this is the only one such  competition on air laws in the world which is the result of the collaboration between Sarin Foundation and the Leiden University of the Netherlands.
He announced that this year the Moot Court international competition shall be held in Chandigarh on April 5-6, 2019 in which teams from 13 countries including India shall be participating.  
Secretary of the Foundation Mr M.L. Sarin informed that the Foundation was founded in memories of his father a legal luminary and senior lawyer Shri H.L Sarin, and his late brother and a Supreme Court lawyer Ranjit Lal Sarin, to encourage the students of law to emerge as successful lawyers. 
Twenty three teams from the top law schools of the country competed in this national finals, which was judged by 50 different judges, including three Judges of the High Court, Justice RN Raina, Justice Deepak Sibal and Justice Sudhir Mittal.
 The earlier international rounds were held around the globe in various countries including Nepal, the USA, Pakistan, Indonesia, China, the Netherlands, Canada, Ukraine, New Zealand, Romania, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Serbia, Poland, the UAE, Singapore, Greece, South Korea and France.  
Nitin Sarin, who is also an air law specialist, stated that this field of law is very pertinent in the Indian context because of the booming avaiation market which is slated to be the largest in the world by 2030.

Shourya Sarin and Fury Jain of Army Institute of Law shared the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation’s Best Mooters Award for 2018-19 with a prize money of Rs.25,000 each.
The award was instituted last year by the Foundation by creating a corpus of Rs.5 lakh to encourage students to become a best lawyer.

Connect NetChamp IntraSchool round on cyber security held at AV Partap High School

Amritsasr,  28 January 2019:   An intraschool round on cyber security, Netchamps2 was held here at the A.V. Partap Singh School in which children of class 9th & 10thparticipated. Winners are Neha & Kaina from 9th standard.

According to Vaneet Sharma Principal of the School, this is a highly useful programme for the children as well as the teachers who get to know about the dangers of using the internet in their formative years when they are not fully aware of the pitfalls.

The finanlists shall participate in the interschool city rounds for Connect NetChamp quiz which shall be followed by a Grand Finale.

This is one of the prime initiatives of Connect Broadband in Punjab and Chandigarh in which more than 10,000 children in 35 schools have already been sensitized in the last six months and the company intends to reach out to at least 20 more schools in the region by the year end.

The cyber security team of Connect Broadband interacted with children and informed them about potential risks including identity thefts, cyberbullying, legal and financial issues, fake news and frauds, as also risky video games and online challenges.

Protecting children against online risks and make them smart users of the internet is the avowed cause that Connect Broadband has undertaken and has sensitized children, teachers and parents over 34 schools so far in last one year in its second edition of NetChamp programme.

NetChamp is an international award winning initiative of Connect Broadband at the International Operator’s Conference, Lisbon, Portugal.

Navjot Sidhu and O.P. Saini to inaugurate PITEX at Amritsar tomorrow



North India’s biggest international trade expo, PITEX opens  tomorrow at Amritsar’s Ranjit Avenue.

This is the 13th edition of the trade show that is a premier event organised by national apex body, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry every year with Government of Punjab as the host state.  

Addressing the media at PITEX’s trade fair venue, PHD’s Punjab Chapter Chairman R.S. Sachdeva said that last year memoranda of understanding worth Rs.2,258 crores were signed that makes PITEX an event which is opening new doors of opportunities for the Punjab’s businesses and trade.

Endorsing PITEX success, Amritsar’s Deputy Commissioner Kamaldeep Singh Sangha remarked that this annual event is not only strengthening business ties with different participating and visiting countries, but also helping the localS economy too.

Punjab’s Minister for Local government, Tourism and Cultural Affairs,  Navjot Singh Sidhu and Minister of Education & Food Processing O.P.Soni, would formally inaugurate the exhibition at 11:30am and would address the industry on one of the most focussed areas of the state government, Tourism.

Some of the industry experts including the former head of hotel and restaurants association and prominent hotelier, Man Mohan Singh Kohli, and another stalwart pioneering the preservation of heritage monuments in the District Sangrur, Karanvir Singh Sibia, shall share the ground realities and way forward in this area.


Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ranjeet Mehta, Principal Director, PHDCCI said this time exhibitors from Afghanistan, Turkey, Thailand and Egypt are also participating in PITEX. Pakistani products will also be on display & sale during the event. Apart from these, states like Jharkahnd, J&K and Rajasthan are also participating in big way in the event.

Rotary Chandigarh to setup India's first Health Education Centre

Chandigarh Administration and Rotary Club of Chandigarh have signed a memorandum of understanding for setting up one-of-its-kind Health Education Centre in the city.

The MoU was signed by B.L. Sharma, Secretary Education, representing the UT Administration and President of the Club, AP Singh in the presence of Shri V.P.Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT, Shri Parimal Rai, Advisor to the Administrator, DGP Shri Sanjay Baniwal, former world president of Rotary International Rajendra K. Saboo and other senior officers of the UT Administration.

Shri Badnore commended Rotary’s endeavours for this unique project and the first one in the country to be setup in the city, and said that this is a new beginning and Administration would like to partner with Rotary Club Chandigarh for its various other initiatives.

Former world president of Rotary International, RK Saboo said that the Club would be spending approximately US$ 300,000 (Rs.2.2 crores) for the Centre for which expertise, and know how shall come from US-based, McMillen Health Centre, located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

This state-of-the-art Health Education Centre is meant to educate school students about fundamentals  of medical science, human physiology, and  would also serve as Training Centre to impart training to master trainers as well as teachers, informed former world president of Rotary International Rajendra K Saboo who had conceived the project.

Chandigarh Administration has decided to setup this Centre in Government Model High School, Sector 22C, in the first phase, and later a site would be identified by a committee comprising representatives of the Engineering, and Architecture departments and the District Education Officer.

It would also work as centre of excellence in providing basic medical education, health checkup and training, and would be managed by a team of administrative staff, team of doctors and experts under a society which shall have Advisor to the Administrator as Chairman while Home, Health, Finance and Education Secretaries of the Chandigarh Administration as members along with various other members from various departments as well as the head of the PGI, and two members of the Rotary Club.

Rotarians present on the occasion included past district governor Madhukar Malhotra, Past Presidents Baldev Agarwal, Charanjit Singh and Manmohan Singh Kohli, and incoming club president Surinder Pal Kaur, DPS Principal Reema Dewan, Head of Community Diseases PGI Dr JS Thakur, Vinod Kapoor, Abha Sharma, among others.
