In the wake of growing aviation industry, it is imperative that the study of air laws should be made part of every law school curricula, said Chief Justice Krishna Murari of Punjab and Haryana High Court at the inauguration of the 10
th Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition at the Army Institute of Law, Mohali, today.
Mr. Justice Krishna Murari commended the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation and Leiden University for preparing the Indian youth in this most vital area of international aviation laws when India has become the third largest aviation market in the world.
Moot courts are a great play field for the budding lawyers, who learn the nuances of the real court experience, he said.
Justice (retd) S.S.Sodhi, President of the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation, said that this is the only one such competition on air laws in the world which is the result of the collaboration between Sarin Foundation and the Leiden University of the Netherlands.
He announced that this year the Moot Court international competition shall be held in Chandigarh on April 5-6, 2019 in which teams from 13 countries including India shall be participating.
Secretary of the Foundation Mr M.L. Sarin informed that the Foundation was founded in memories of his father a legal luminary and senior lawyer Shri H.L Sarin, and his late brother and a Supreme Court lawyer Ranjit Lal Sarin, to encourage the students of law to emerge as successful lawyers.
Twenty three teams from the top law schools of the country competed in this national finals, which was judged by 50 different judges, including three Judges of the High Court, Justice RN Raina, Justice Deepak Sibal and Justice Sudhir Mittal.
The earlier international rounds were held around the globe in various countries including Nepal, the USA, Pakistan, Indonesia, China, the Netherlands, Canada, Ukraine, New Zealand, Romania, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Serbia, Poland, the UAE, Singapore, Greece, South Korea and France.
Nitin Sarin, who is also an air law specialist, stated that this field of law is very pertinent in the Indian context because of the booming avaiation market which is slated to be the largest in the world by 2030.
Shourya Sarin and Fury Jain of Army Institute of Law awarded
Shourya Sarin and Fury Jain of Army Institute of Law shared the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation’s Best Mooters Award for 2018-19 with a prize money of Rs.25,000 each.
The award was instituted last year by the Foundation by creating a corpus of Rs.5 lakh to encourage students to become a best lawyer.
